BEST PRIVATE BLOOD TESTS IN THE UK

Comparing private blood test providers based on their range of blood tests, pricing, collection methods and quality of service.

COMPARING PROVIDERS

With a nation becoming far more aware of their health, and looking for ways to proactively check their health status, it's important to pick a private blood test provider that suits your needs.

The following is an honest review, ranking the UKs leading private blood test providers. We review what each provider tests for, how the process works, pricing, and how quickly you'll get your results.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN COMPARING BLOOD TEST PROVIDERS

  1. The Markers to Test: When comparing tests make sure you check the biomarkers being monitored to ensure you are paying for what you want. Prices for tests will vary by provider so its important to check how many biomarkers are being tested and which ones are included.
  2. Laboratory Status & Accreditations: Does the provider own their own lab or do they use a third-party lab? Using a third-party lab will likely add to the turnaround times of results. Check that the provider has United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 15189 standards. This is the official seal of approval and evidence the laboratory is competent and clinically accurate.
  3. Sample Collection Method: Some providers only offer a capillary test, also known as a finger-prick test, which are completed at home. Other providers offer clinics with trained Phlebotomists to take the blood sample. While at-home testing is convenient there can be limitations on what blood tests can be done via a finger-prick test so its with evaluating the options.
  4. Turnaround Time of Results: Private blood testing is considerably quicker compared to standard NHS (non-urgent) testing. However the turnaround times do vary across private blood test providers, with a select few able to offer same or next day results.
  5. Reporting and Actionable Next Steps: Its important that you are able to understand the results you are given and that there is a clear commentary provided. In addition, review whether the provider offers support with next steps such as GP consultations, nutrition/fitness guidance, or medications and suppliments.

ONE DAY TESTS

  • 300+ biomarkers available
  • Venous or capillary blood collection options
  • Nationwide clinics or at-home testing
  • Tests starting from £19
  • Results same or next day
  • Their own UKAS & CQC accredited laboratory
  • Detailed online health dashboard
  • GP consultations available
  • TRT, Fertility, HRT, weight loss support and medication also available

Summary of Service

One Day Tests is considered one of the top blood testing providers in the UK because of its exceptionally fast result turnaround times, in-house laboratory control, and nationwide clinic access. 99.2% of results are provided to customers the same or next day and this is largely down to the fact they own their very own laboratory enabling a smooth transition from blood test collection to the samples being delivered directly to the lab for analysing.

There are over 170 different types of tests available from comprehensive full body MOTs to single biomarker tests. Test in a local clinic or use a home testing kit via a finger-prick or Tasso (needle-alternative) method.

The results dashboard is incredibly clear to understand. Graphs are displayed for every biomarker tested and a supporting commentary included detailing what the results could mean.

One Day Tests also have their own team of GPs if customers wish to discuss their results, or any other health concern, with a medical expert. Within the clinical team there are specialists in specific mens and womens health conditions and treatments, and this has enabled One Day Tests to broaden its service offering into weight loss medication, Testosterone Replacement Therapy for men, and HRT/menopause, PCOS (PMOS) and fertility consultations for women.

Mystery shopper feedback - 10/10

"I visited one of their London clinics and got my results back the very same day - I couldn't believe how fast it was. The dashboard made everything so easy to understand, with clear graphs and explanations for each result. When I had questions, I spoke to one of their GPs who was so friendly and helpful. It's not just a blood test - it's a proper health service."

THRIVA

  • 75+ biomarkers available
  • Capillary Only (via a Tasso device)
  • Tests starting from £49
  • Results 2-3 days
  • Detailed online health dashboard

Summary of Service

Thriva specialise in personalised at-home blood tests. They don't offer in-clinic services and the only collection method available is a Tasso device which is attached to the upper arm and works as a pain-free suction to collect the blood.

Ordering the test is very different process compared to other providers. You can't select a specific test, instead you complete a detailed survey and you are then given a list of recommended biomarkers to test based on the survey answers. Thriva offer just over 75 biomarkers to test from.

Thriva use a 3rd-party UKAS accredited laboratory to analyse samples. The results are shared with customers via an app. The results come with a clear colour coded guide to highlight whether the level is optimal or out of range. You get a doctor reviewed report, although its unclear whether this is written bespoke by a doctor or whether they use AI to take generic statements from their team of doctors to build the report. Either way its still a nice feature.

Mystery shopper feedback - 7/10

"My score would be higher if it wasn't for their booking process, which I found difficult to navigate. A long survey to complete before you are presented with recommended tests. I was impressed by the presentation of the home test kit. My kit came with 2 tubes to fill and changing the tubes was a little tricky, however the Tasso devise was completely pain free and easy to attach to the arm. I got my results 2 days after I posted my sample. The App where the results are displayed was very clear and easy to understand."

Trustpilot Rating 4.6/5

RANDOX HEALTH

  • 300+ biomarkers available
  • Venous or capillary blood collection options
  • Nationwide clinics or at-home testing
  • Tests starting from £46
  • Results 1-3 days
  • Their own UKAS & CQC accredited laboratory
  • Online health dashboard

Summary of Service

An established private health provider with direct-access blood testing and additional services. They, like One Day Tests, also own their own clinics and offer at-home testing. They offer a quickdraw kit with is the same as the Tasso option where its a suction device attached to the upper arm.

Their range of blood tests is very comprehensive covering full body MOT tests through to single markers. Samples are analysed in their UKAS-accredited laboratories.

In addition they offer DNA and genetic profiling tests, and offer customers GP consultations.

Mystery shopper feedback 8.5/10

"The service offered by Randox was generally very good. The website was easy to navigate and had the choice of taking a test at home of a clinic. I went to a clinic about 40 minutes form where I lived. I did find the price of the test and clinic appointment to be on the high side, certainly compared to other providers. I got my results back in a few days which was fine, and found the results very easy to understand."

Trustpilot Rating 4.6/5

MEDICHECKS

  • 250+ biomarkers available
  • Venous or capillary blood collection options
  • At-home testing or 3rd-party clinics
  • Tests starting from £19
  • Results in 2-4 working days
  • Use partner labs
  • Online health dashboard

Summary of Service

Medichecks is one of the longest standing private blood testing companies operating since 2001. They offer both at-home and in-clinic blood testing methods. They don't own any of the clinics, instead they outsource to 3rd-party providers who can take the blood sample from the Medichecks customer. For customers using a clinic, the customer is mailed a venous kit which they then take along to the clinic, which adds additional time to the whole blood testing process.

Their website states most samples are processed in UKAS-accredited labs, which means some samples maybe be going to laboraoties without the UKAS accreditation.

Their website is clear and easy to use. You can order the test you require and the pricing of the tests are reasonable in comparison with the rest of the market. Customers receive doctor-reviewed report with comments listed for every result.

Mystery shopper feedback 8/10

"The ordering process was very easy. I found a test suitable for my needs and selected the in-clinic option. It was a little odd having to wait to receive the kit to then take to the clinic. The clinic I went to was fine and took my blood, however it would have been easier to just turn up at the clinic and not having to wait a couple of days. The results were very clear and easy to understand, and I could book a GP appointment with a 3rd-party supplier. I scored Medichecks an 8 rather than 10 because they seem to use a lot of 3rd parties."

Trustpilot Rating 4.5/5

NUMAN

  • 150+ biomarkers available
  • Home tests only
  • Tests starting from £47
  • Results 3-5 days
  • Use a partner UKAS accredited lab
  • Online health dashboard

Summary of Service

Numan offers a range of at-home and clinical blood tests that check in on core body systems. It's best known as a digital health platform geared toward men, though it also has diagnostics tailored for women. Every test comes with a clinical review with insights.

Numan runs as a digital health and telehealth platform, and it relies on independent third-party labs to handle all its sample processing. This is the reason why results are delivered slower than other providers.

The dashboard showing the results is very user friendly. Like One Day Tests, Numan does offer other male and female services such as TRT, weight loss and menopause.

Mystery shopper feedback 8.5/10

"I had heard of Numan but this was the first time I took one of their tests. A finger prick test was the only option. Instructions were clear and managed to collect my sample. I got my results back 4 working days later which is OK but slower than other providers i'd used before. Results via their app were really clear and easy to understand, and like that they also offer other health services. Score gets knocked down purely due to turnaround of results and limited to home testing only."

Trustpilot Rating 4.6/5

FORTH

  • 50+ biomarkers available
  • Venous or capillary blood collection options
  • At-home testing or 3rd-party clinics
  • Tests starting from £39
  • Results 2-3 days
  • Use a partner UKAS accredited lab
  • Online health dashboard

Summary of Service
Forth (formerly Forth with Life) is a well-known UK digital health service focused on at-home and clinical biomarker tracking. It doesn't process samples itself. instead, it works with UKAS-accredited lab partners, including NHS labs, to analyse the blood data.

Their larger tests (panels) measure between 34 and 40 biomarkers which is lower than One Day Tests, Medichecks and Randox Health's range of Full Body blood tests. They do however push their 'build your own' custom test which allow customers to pick and combine the biomarkers they want to test.

Forth also have their own app health dashboard which provides clear and detailed explanations of each result and providers the customer with a health score.

Mystery shopper feedback 7.5/10

"I found their website easy to use and it was clear what tests were available. They have a quiz you can take if you are not sure what test you want. The tests available are a bit limited. They seem to focus on smaller, baseline tests rather than more comprehensive tests that other providers offer. Once I got my results in a couple of days I did like their dashboard which came with an overall health score."

HOW WE SCORED EACH BLOOD TEST PROVIDER

Each provider was scored based on the following criteria:

  • Sample collection options
  • Range of testing
  • Speed of results
  • Lab accreditations
  • Their own lab or use 3rd party
  • How results are displayed
  • Pricing / value for money
  • Additional services (such as GP consultations)

This review was carried out in August 2026. Information listed on this page is correct at the time of publishing.

SO WHICH PROVIDER IS ACTUALLY THE BEST?

You may think there is bias here, but after completing our mystery shopper review we genuinely believe One Day Tests is the best all-round blood test provider.

One Day Tests offer the quickest blood test results in the market from the time of blood draw through to the results being delivered. As One Day Tests own their own lab it means the blood samples are delivered directly to the lab from the clinics. It's this process that makes us quicker than the rest. Once at the lab 99.2% of samples are tested the same day.

One Day Tests own their own clinics which again makes the process far more easier for the customer. No 3rd-party involvement.

The health dashboard is on par with a lot of the competitors, which all provide clear explanations of each result. Some competitors do seem to provide a doctors report which looks suspiciously AI generated so just be cautious of that when comparing providers.

Lastly, when it comes to aftercare, One Day Tests leads the field. Their own team of GPs, weight loss, menopause/HRT, fertility and TRT experts are a click away after you receive your results.

The One Day Tests Pharmacy can distribute any medications and personalised supplements.

It really is the one-stop-shop for your blood testing and on-going health needs.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Why should I use a private blood testing company?
  • Speed
  • Convenience
  • Breadth of testing
  • Limited restrictions

Private testing is ideal for proactive and preventative health monitoring or where you may be waiting for a long time on the NHS.

Using a private blood testing company enables you to get the tests you want rather than be restricted by what a GP recommends or has the resource to refer.

You also have more variation of blood test collection methods, and you can test at a time and location to fit around work/life schedules more easily than NHS appointments.

You are also more likely to receive your results back much quicker.

What is the best private blood test in the UK?

The One Day Tests Ultimate Performance Blood Test monitors 57 key biomarkers and is the best seller in the range. At £180 it offers very good value for money when compared to other tests on the market.

The One Day Tests Ultimate Longevity blood test is the largest and most comprehensive test we do. The test monitors 71 biomarkers for an incredibly detailed overview of your health and costs £325.

How can I tell if i'm paying a good price for a private blood test?

When comparing blood tests and each provider its important to judge whether the price is fair or not on the following criteria:

  1. What's included in the price. For example, Do you just get the blood test? are there any additional or hidden fees? Do you get a detailed report and summary of your results.
  2. What is actually being tested. Compare the number of biomarkers being tested, and specifically which biomarkers are being tested. More biomarkers is not necessarily better, so check what you are being tested for.
  3. Turnaround times. Faster results can for some people justify a higher cost.
  4. Accreditations. Accreditations won't necesarily vary the cost but it will give you peace of mind and reassurance that your sample is tested in the very best conditions and under the strictest regulations. Look for UKAS-accredited laboratories. they should be stated on the providers website.
Is finger-prick or venous blood collection better?

Both collection methods have many positives, and as a company that offers both methods we can give an honest breakdown of each method.

Finger-prick (capillary)

It's convenient in that you complete the test in the comfort of your own home.

An ideal solution for those who are anxious with needles.

Its also ideal for smaller and simpler panels. Most providers will not offer finger-prick tests for tests testing lots of biomarkers due to the volume of blood required.

There is more chance of rejections from the laboratory if the sample is collected incorrectly, so it is key for users to follow every step in the instructions provided.

Venous blood draw

The ideal method for larger tests where lots of biomarkers are being tested.

Its also consider easier because a trained Phlebotomist is taking the sample directly from the vein. There will be a small clinic fee to pay for this service.

Its important to state that both venous and capillary testing is accurate.

How can I check if a laboratory is accredited?

The accreditation mark to look out for is UKAS accreditation. UKAS stands for United Kingdom Accreditation Service.

For thee blood test provider you are looking to use look at their website for the details of the laboratories they use and you can also search for them on the UKAS website.

Its important to check the providers website as the laboratory name may not match the name of the provider.

For example Sussex Pathology is the parent company for One Day Tests. The laboratory name is listed under Sussex Pathology, so you would not find One Day Tests in this search.

Some providers use third-party UKAS accredited laboratories, so again its key to review the providers website.

Using a third-party UKAS Laboratory does not impact the quality of the testing, but it may impact the turnaround times for the results.

How will I receive my blood test results?

A private blood test provider will likely provide results in a couple of ways.

As a password-protected PDF file delivered via email and/or as part of an online dashboard that you can login to.

A dashboard view of our results is considered the most user-friendly method as the results are usually provided in graphical or another visual way so its clearer where your results sites within the specific range.

A good dashboard will also provide detailed commentary of what your result may mean. In addition your results can be viewed by a GP to provide more information, specifically if you need advice on next steps in your health journey.

One Day Tests provide results in both a password protected email, and in a detailed and user-friendly health dashboard.
