TOTAL PROTEIN BLOOD TEST
The Total Protein blood test measures the combined amount of albumin and globulin in your bloodstream. These proteins play essential roles in maintaining fluid balance, supporting immune function, transporting nutrients and hormones, and repairing tissues.
Clinically, total protein is a valuable marker in assessing overall nutritional status, liver function, and certain chronic diseases.
Low total protein levels may suggest malnutrition, liver or kidney disease, or digestive disorders that impair absorption. Elevated levels, on the other hand, may be seen in conditions such as chronic inflammation, infections, or certain types of cancer (e.g. multiple myeloma).
