Doctor's notes

Hi, I am Dr. Adam Staten and here's my view on this test as a GP and Clinical Director at One Day Tests.

The Ultimate Healthy Man Blood Test gives an enormous amount of helpful information that will give you a really good picture of your general state of health.

This is a good test if you are concerned about cardiovascular risk, the health of your liver and kidneys, or want to know that your diet is giving you the right amount of vitamins and minerals.

The test looks at your testosterone levels as low testosterone can be at the root of symptoms of fatigue, low mood, and loss of libido. It also looks at the health of your thyroid which is the gland that regulates your metabolism.

Overall, this test is very useful for helping to identify the cause of vague and difficult-to-define symptoms that may be bothering you as well as establishing if you need to make any lifestyle changes to keep you healthy for the future.

Red flag symptoms for the Ultimate Healthy Man Blood Test

Even if your blood tests are normal, you should see a doctor if you have any of the symptoms below because they may be a sign of a serious underlying illness.

Special instructions

Hi, I am Stefania Brown, I am the Laboratory Manager at One Day Tests and here are the lab's special requests for the Ultimate Healthy Man Blood Test.

Ensure you conduct this test once any signs of short-term ailments have subsided. While fasting is not mandatory for this test, refrain from consuming fatty foods for 8 hours prior.

For optimal results, perform this test in the morning, ideally between 7am and 10am, as testosterone levels peak during this window.

If you are on biotin supplements, please discontinue their use for a period of 72 hours leading up to the test.

Venepuncture appointment - how to prepare

If you are coming into one of our clinics for the test, this is what you need to do before you arrive:

  • Drink plenty of water about an hour before the appointment.
  • Avoid coffee/tea/energy drinks. Water is good!
  • That’s it! We’ll do the rest.

Home test kit for Ultimate Healthy Man Blood Test - how it works

Our blood test kits are simple and convenient.

The most important step in doing a blood test at home is to read the instructions very carefully. The process is very simple, but there are a few pitfalls you need to be aware of - you will save yourself a lot of time if you do it right the first time around!

  • Full printed instructions will arrive with your kit - please read them carefully.
  • Drink plenty before taking the sample and warm your hands up in the sink with warm water for a few minutes. This will make your blood flow much better.
  • Fill the tubes to the top line. We don’t need much blood; filling tubes to the top line is about 15 drops of blood.
  • Post the samples on the same day you take them, before midday, Monday to Thursday. If you post it any other time it might get to us late or be stuck at a sorting office over the weekend. You will then have to do it again.
  • Package the sample in the same box the kit came in. Otherwise, Royal Mail or DPD will reject it. The sample tubes go into a pouch, then into a cardboard box, and then into a return envelope. All of this is provided in the kit: please use it.

We look forward to receiving your sample in our lab!

Frequently Asked Questions

Hi, I am Lana Nela, Lead Nurse, and here is what we are frequently asked about this test.

Will this test tell me about my risk of heart attacks and strokes?

Yes, this test includes tests for your blood lipids which can be used to calculate your risk of cardiovascular disease in the future. It also has the test hsCRP which is a very sensitive marker of inflammation that can be used to determine cardiovascular risk.

What information will the liver tests give me?

We test for a number of liver enzymes, as well as the waste product bilirubin. Taken together these can tell us whether your liver is suffering from any damage, may tell us whether your alcohol intake is too high, and will also give us an indication if you have any gallbladder problems. Liver disease often causes no symptoms in its early stages, but identifying the problem early can allow you to make changes now to avoid any permanent liver damage in the future.

Why is the kidney test important?

The kidneys are important for regulating blood pressure, regulating blood electrolytes and removing waste products and toxins from the blood. Early-stage kidney disease usually causes no symptoms, so you may not be aware there is a problem without checking. Knowing about kidney disease is very important because it can increase your risk of cardiovascular problems, and it will also influence decisions about what kinds of medication, and what doses of medication, are right for you in the future.

Why is the timing of the testosterone test important?

As with most hormones, levels of testosterone rise and fall in a pattern. Levels of testosterone are highest in the morning and therefore taking the test later in the day can give the false impression of low testosterone levels.

Why take this test?

Hi, I am Dr. Marco Esposito and here is why it's important to take this test.
  • For a comprehensive health check
  • To ensure that your diet is providing the right amounts of micronutrients
  • You are worried about cardiovascular risk
  • Ideal as an annual checkup

Is this test right for you?

Hi, I am Sandeep Patel, I am the Laboratory Director at One Day Tests. Here are the symptoms that you may wish to address with this test.

This test is a good test for those who want a general health check and who may be concerned that they may have symptoms of low testosterone such as low mood, fatigue, loss of muscle mass and erectile dysfunction.

This test also includes biomarkers that are important to monitor for those using testosterone replacement.
