What is it?

Potassium is a mineral that is one of the key salts or electrolytes in your body. Potassium is important for the conduction of nerve impulses, muscle contraction, maintaining the heart rhythm, and maintaining the fluid balance in the body.

Reference ranges

If your indicative potassium concentration is lower than the reference range for our laboratory:

If you have low potassium levels, you may have a cardio issue, for example an irregular heartbeat. This condition needs to be investigated further.

You can discuss this result with your GP.

If your indicative potassium concentration is higher than the reference range for our laboratory:

If you have high potassium levels, your heart muscle activity may be reduced. This condition needs to be investigated further.
