NOTES FROM THE LAB

Hello! My name is Jamila Quaye and I am a senior biomedical scientist with a specialism in haematology, here at One Day Tests laboratory.

Free testosterone - description and reference ranges

What is it?

Free Testosterone is the portion of unbound (free) male hormone testosterone that is free from binding proteins (SHBG) and Albumin proportions.

Free testosterone is calculated and reported in the laboratory using the following equation.

Testosterone and SHBG measurements are in nmol/L; free testosterone in pmol/L:

Free testosterone (pmol/L) = Testosterone x (6.0928 - (2.2864 * log SHBG)) x 10
