COAGULATION (CLOTTING) BLOOD TEST OVERVIEW

A coagulation blood test evaluates how quickly and effectively your blood forms clots, which is crucial for preventing excessive bleeding.

Results provide insight into whether clotting factors, platelets, and related proteins are functioning properly, or if your blood is clotting too slowly (leading to bleeding risks) or too quickly (increasing the risk of dangerous clot formation).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hi, I am Lana Nela, Lead Nurse, and here is what we are frequently asked about this test.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Coagulation (Clotting) Blood Test.

What is a coagulation blood test, and what does it measure?

A coagulation blood test is a diagnostic test that assesses the clotting function of the blood. It measures various parameters such as clotting time, clotting factors, platelet count, and other coagulation markers to evaluate the blood's ability to form clots effectively.

The test helps diagnose clotting disorders, monitor anticoagulant therapy, and evaluate liver and kidney function related to coagulation.

WHY HAVE THE TEST?

Hi, I am Nader Eldarf, I am a Biomedical Scientist in our laboratory and here is why it's important to take this test.
  1. WHY HAVE THE COAGULATION (CLOTTING) BLOOD TEST?

The coagulation blood test plays a crucial role in assessing and monitoring the clotting function of the blood, making it an important diagnostic tool in healthcare.

Blood clotting, or coagulation, is a vital process that prevents excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is injured. This test helps identify various clotting disorders and abnormalities that can lead to either excessive clotting or excessive bleeding.

By measuring parameters such as clotting time, clotting factors, platelet count, and other coagulation markers, healthcare professionals can diagnose conditions such as hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

It is also used to monitor patients on anticoagulant therapy, ensuring that their blood is within the desired therapeutic range to prevent both clotting and bleeding complications.

IS THIS TEST RIGHT FOR YOU?

Hi, I am Sandeep Patel, I am the Laboratory Director at One Day Tests. Here are the symptoms that you may wish to address with this test.
  1. IS THE COAGULATION (CLOTTING) BLOOD TEST RIGHT FOR YOU?

Coagulation tests, also known as clotting tests, are conducted to assess the body's ability to form blood clots effectively. They are commonly used to diagnose bleeding disorders, monitor the effectiveness of anticoagulant medications, or evaluate liver and kidney function.

If you have a family history of clotting disorders, experience excessive bleeding or bruising, or are undergoing certain medical treatments, such as surgery or long-term medication use, a coagulation blood test may be useful.

Finally, if you are experiencing unexplained symptoms like frequent nosebleeds or heavy menstrual bleeding, your GP may find this test useful in determining the underlying cause.
