About the test

Are you expecting or planning to start a family? Would you like to find out as early as possible if you are pregnant? You need the quantitative beta-HCG blood test.

Experience the ultimate peace of mind and stay informed about the progress of your pregnancy with the HCG pregnancy monitoring blood test.

This test gives you an exact value of HCG concentration in your blood.

The quantitative HCG blood test (also known as beta-HCG) can be used to detect a pregnancy early – even before a first missed period. Unlike urine pregnancy tests which give a simple positive or negative result, the HCG blood can give an indication of how far along you are in your pregnancy and continuous measurements can be used to check on the healthy progress of your pregnancy.

Our highly accurate home blood tests measure the HCG hormone in your blood, providing comprehensive insights into your pregnancy health and progression. With superior sensitivity and specificity compared to urine-based tests, you can depend on the reliability of our results. Trust in a laboratory that strictly adheres to the Care Quality Commission regulations and BSI/ISO 15189 standards. You can also visit our clinics for same-day tests in person - and often same-day results.

And with our free Health Dashboard tool and subscription discounts, tracking your pregnancy has never been easier or more convenient. One Day Tests gives you the control to monitor your pregnancy, one day at a time.

This is our most popular test to have on a weekly subscription!

What is the HCG Pregnancy Blood Test?

The HCG blood test measures the levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) hormone in the blood. HCG is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. The HCG blood test is primarily used to confirm and monitor pregnancy.

HCG is primarily used in pregnancy confirmation - it is one of the earliest markers of pregnancy. The test can detect the presence of HCG in the blood, confirming pregnancy even before a missed period or a positive home pregnancy test.

HCG levels typically rise rapidly in early pregnancy and peak around 8-11 weeks. Serial HCG blood tests may be performed to monitor the health and progress of the pregnancy. Abnormal HCG levels could indicate an ectopic pregnancy, a potential miscarriage, or other pregnancy complications.

In certain cases, the HCG blood test can help estimate the gestational age of the pregnancy. Comparing the HCG levels with established reference ranges and considering the timing of the test can provide an approximate estimation of how far along the pregnancy is.

In addition, in some cases, the HCG blood test, along with other blood tests and ultrasound examinations, may be used as part of prenatal screening to assess the risk of certain genetic disorders.

For most biomarkers our usual turnaround time is 24-48 hours, or less, from the time your sample is in our lab. We do not wait for all the results to complete before sending them to you, so you may start receiving results the same day for most cases, or as results become available.

We are extremely proud of our very short turnaround times and a very efficient laboratory processes. Whilst we accommodate the shortest of time scales, with some results available within hours, for this particular test the usual turnaround time is:

    1-2 days

Home test kit for HCG Early Pregnancy Check - how it works

Our blood test kits are simple and convenient.

The most important step in doing a blood test at home is to read the instructions very carefully. The process is very simple, but there are a few pitfalls you need to be aware of - you will save yourself a lot of time if you do it right the first time around!

  • Full printed instructions will arrive with your kit - please read them carefully.
  • Drink plenty before taking the sample and warm your hands up in the sink with warm water for a few minutes. This will make your blood flow much better.
  • Fill the tubes to the top line. We don’t need much blood; filling tubes to the top line is about 15 drops of blood.
  • Post the samples on the same day you take them, before midday, Monday to Thursday. If you post it any other time it might get to us late or be stuck at a sorting office over the weekend. You will then have to do it again.
  • Package the sample in the same box the kit came in. Otherwise, Royal Mail or DPD will reject it. The sample tubes go into a pouch, then into a cardboard box, and then into a return envelope. All of this is provided in the kit: please use it.

We look forward to receiving your sample in our lab!
